2002P Kennedy half question

I found a 2002P half dollar in my change.
I know it's possible to find anything in your change.

My question is that the Red Book says the 2002 half was never put in circulation, but I've heard from other places that they were.
Who's right?

Thank you for the help.

Probably from searched rolls or bags bought from the mint.

We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
  • Oh, cherrypickers buy the bags and dump all the scratched or ugly coins back into circulation.

    Thanks mdwoods.

I know I've spent a few and I know I am not unique in my quirky ways.

However, these were only available directly from the mint as none were sent to the Federal Reserve Banks. Only 3,865,610 were produced from Philly.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

That is one thing I learned in this forum, the mint makes the money and the F.R. Banks distribute it to the public.

19Lyds thanks for the confirmation I didn't remember if any were sent to casinos or NYC vending machines.
