Kerry Wood - Headed for the commons bin?

Kerry is out again with arm troubles. He will be 29 next year and has a 70-54 career record. Even if he stays a starter, he won't have enough time to put up HOF career totals. If he becomes a closer or middle relief, he will be a common,

It's too bad, he had such promise.

yea, anti-climactic career for sure. Slugs home run in playoffs and STILL loses game, so sad.

commons' bin it is my man.

mark prior is not very far behind kerry woods i'd say too.

2 more years of same for prior and this thread will have his name on it.

Woods isn't even as good as Gooden. Maybe Woods can become a closer. That would keep him at semistar level, maybe. But I agree that his career will not recover enough to keep him out of the commons bins.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • Post 1975 pitchers are a tough breed for collectors. I cant think (off the top of my head) of one pitcher other than Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan that hasnt found his way into the commons bin after the rookie hype dies down after a couple of years....

    maddux?

    pedro?

collecting pitchers even ones with HOF credentials should be just for pure love of the game and the cards ...investing in pitchers its just too dangerous

I think Kerry Wood should be able to recover from this surgery and pitch next season. I don't think he'll ever be as good as he was a few years ago, but I think once he's heeled up by the start of next season, barring injury in other areas, he should be servicable for at least 150-160 innings.

I can still vividly remember watching the game when he struck out 20 batters in 1998... that was one of the most incredible pitching displays I have ever seen in a single game.
