Milk spots on a 1964 AH Kennedy Proof. Do I dip?

I bought a 1964 Proof Set with the AH Kennedy for my Dansco 7070 album and the Kennedy is spotted (one pin tip spot and the rest make the coin look a little dusty). Will dipping it help at all or should I just stick it in the album like it is? It's still a nice looking coin so I don't want to take any chances on ruining it.

Thanks for any help.

Do NOT dip!!! Especialy if it might make cam or DCAM!!! Send it to NCS and let them dip it. They will grade it thru NGC if you wish, or after you get it back, send it to PCGS if you like. Do you want it for you set in the album or slabs? You can get an AH Kennedy pretty cheap if not a cam/Dcam on E-bay. I tried dipping one and it looked beautiful before I submitted it. THEN, it looks MUCH worse with MANY more spots now in the PCGS holder! Talk to Russ and he can tell you all about it. He's the AH Kennedy expert and is very helpful. He might add your coin to his next batch at NCS/NGC/PCGS if you want too! Good luck! Ray

I want it raw for my album. My first impressions are if it was spotless it might go 67Cam, definitely not DCAM based on everything I've seen. Comparing it to one I have slabbed that's a PR67 and a '68 that's a 67Cam it's between the two with a slight edge towards the Cam.

After looking at it closer and comparing it to a 67Cam and a 68Cam I really don't think it has a chance for CAM but it appears to be cleaner than the 67 so it might grade as a PR68 (without the spots of course).

No, it won't. The type of spots you described are embedded in the planchet and will not dip off. This is a common problem with the Accented Hair.

Thanks Russ. That's what I thought from previous posts but I wanted to be sure. It still looks pretty good so in the album it will go.

They're milk spots caused by improper planchet rinsing, and the gluck gets enbedded when the coin is struck. The Accented Hair was first production during an insanely chaotic period, so mint procedures were pretty sloppy. The coins are plagued by problems, and these spots are one of them, with obverse hairlining being the other major issue. The "dusty" look he describes is zillions of micro spots.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
