Look at these PSA 9 examples!

I recently obtained these two cards from a big time dealer. I doubt they were damaged by the slabbing process. The damage is the same "lifting" found on cards from many rack packs.

Looks like the squirrel took a little nibble before that big dealer sent that in.

I doubt that any dealer sent that card in that way. In must have happened during the slabbing process.

I don't think so. That looks like the classic nick from cards I have seen in and pulled from racks. I don't know why but sometimes the top card(or 2) gets that. Either way, its an ugly 9.

Can you send it back to PSA and get the value of the cards back?

The bottom one doesn't look too bad, maybe it wouldn't even be noticeable if the submitter had pressed down the "lift" with his thumb before sending it in. The top one, though, looks like a piece of the card is missing.

But PSA is supposed to be responsible for grading mistakes. But I don't know if it does you much good to get 1978 Sam Hinds and Junior Moore back in PSA 5 holders plus the difference in value. I saw some 1978 PSA 9 commons sell for 99 cents this weekend, and some PSA 9 HOFers sell for less than half of SMR -- ouch for the seller who spent $5 each (or more) getting those commons graded, but the set-builders must be happy.

    Sting,
This response was part serious-part tongue-in-cheek. It is directed at my past dealings with PSA and absolutely not at you in any way.

I do not take things to seriously, I was just wondering if or how you could show that they were graded wrong, they would give you a fair value for them. I do not know the interworkings of PSA grading. I do not have a membership with them.

    Dan, ALSO:

    1. THAT LEFT CORNER (REV). ALSO LOOKS DAMAGED IN THE SCAN (BUT MAY JUST BE THE SCAN?)

    2. WITH THAT TINY PIECE OF CARDBOARD "HANGING ON WITH ITS DEAR LIFE" LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT IS RECENT DAMAGE. PLUS THE CONTRAST OF COLORS (THE EXPOSED "PLAIN-COLOR CARDBOARD FIBER" FROM THE DAMAGED AREA AND THE RUST COLORED TINTED BORDERS) DOES NOT SHOW THE "YEARS OF AGING" (YEARS OF OXIDATION, ETC.), WHICH A '70s VINTAGE CARD SHOULD DISPLAY, IF THAT DAMAGE OCCURRED YEARS AGO, ALSO LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE CARD COULD BE RECENTLY DAMAGED. BUT AGAIN, I'M LOOKING AT A SCAN. YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF IF THOSE EXPOSED INTERIOR FIBERS SHOW YEARS OF AGING OR NOT!

    rbd

edit: not to mention that's a lot of room in the holder (left side of scan), no? But that's another issue!

The # 303 card the "lifting" is evident from the paper loss all the way to the right of the card. It really looks like the damage suffered by many cards on the top and bottom of rack packs. I just broke 2/3 of a case of 78 rack (great case) but many cards add this same damage.

I am sure the professional graders at PSA have looked at these cards and found no problem with the grades they assigned, I am sure any damage was done during the shipment of these cards back to you and it is clearly the post office that damaged your cards.

Would it be possible to see a full-length scan of the card--to see the grade AND the damage at the same time?
