Bad ebay bidder......... "ireichel"

"ireichel" is the handle...........

This item....

The bid was $224 when "ireichel" entered a bid of $360 making them the high bidder and "making the reserve" of $300........ The BIN of $400 then went away.........

Over 2 days later, "ireichel" retracted their bid claiming "entered wrong amount"............ 2 days later ???????

Methinks remorse had set in, or a different coin opportunity......... Anyways......... I AM NOT PLEASED, and have blocked them from bidding on any more of my auctions............ according to their feedback page, they have retracted 7 bids in the last 6 months.......... I suggest you block them from bidding in your auctions, and save yourself some grief............

Thanks, Jim

The name's familiar -- he must post either here, or on RCC. I think he's bid on some of my auctions before.

I don't get too hung up on bid retractions, but I can see in this case how it'd be kind of a drag. Not blockworthy though, in my opinion.

Well ...as I write this.....he's right there on the top of the page on the coin forum with one of his own threads.....why don't you ask him about it.....
    Have a nice day
  • Just got a telephone call from "ireichel"..........

To summarize it.......... his closing words were........ "to he11 with you........... screw you".............

    Jim,

Irv is ok in my book. I'm not sure of the reason for his cancelled bid, but I've had multiple transactions with him, and never a problem. Actually, quite accomodating if I remember correctly.

I guess I'd chalk it up to one of the many perils of doing business through Ebay. It happens.

7 bid retractions in the last 6 months. A form of reserve fishing?

    Now isn't that special!!
  • The purpose of this post was NOT to make a personal attack on "ireichel", rather, simply put, to voice my frustration with a ebay bidder who bids up an item OVER the reserve price, and then 2 days later, retracts same bid citing "entered wrong amount"........... I would block ANY bidder who did the same............ If a "entered wrong amount" scenario did happen (and it does), it's normally off by a decimal point, or an extremely strange amount........... yet, here we had a bidder placing a bid between the high bid and the BIN price at what would be a "going rate" for the item offered.......... It should have been the bidders responsibility to contact the seller and explain the situation, rather than just take the easy way out and hit "entered wrong amount"..................

This is where the story takes a turn.............

The bidder called me moments ago and DEMANDED AN APOLOGY......... Maybe he didn't like me stating the facts.......... Maybe he didn't like me emphasizing the fact that bid retractions and him are "no stranger"....... He stated that he wanted to buy the coin........... Before I could say anything, he told me that he was overextended and had to cancel his bid....... Strange that the other items he was bidding on show no retractions............ Then to spout off about how what he did was "legal"............. Sure it was legal........ underhanded, but legal............... Then to spew his verbally abusive diatribe at me was totally un-called for.............

Irv.............Here's your apology............" I'm sorry for stating the facts "............ Have a nice day image

Yeah, but when I say it, I don't have the recipient of those words coming back and saying, "Sure -- name the time and place!"

I'd be ticked too if a bidder did that. Virtually no good excuse for that.

<< <i>I'd be ticked too if a bidder did that. Virtually no good excuse for that. >>

It happens. I've retracted a bid exactly once (not a coin) -- I entered $20.00 when I meant $2.00 (yeah, it was that cheap an item). Maybe I should have left the bid -- it's chump change and worst case I'm out only $18 more than I wanted to pay. But at least I retracted it immediately and didn't screw with a reserve auction or a BIN.

But seven times in six months? Mistakes happen, but that many? image

That's Irv Reichel, Bob...a longtime RCCer. He doesn't post all that much, but he's been on RCC since I can remember and I've been there since '99 or so. I do remember that he put together a big-time set of Buffalo nickels.

  • Where is that popcorn icon???
  • To each his own but I generally block any bidder who retracts a bid. The wrong amount excuse holds water if they place a new, corrected bid assuming the current levels allow for that but more often than not people who do that just seem to be playing games. I find it disruptive and just prefer to not have that type of participation in my sales for better or worse.

The guy has been on Ebay since 1997 with over 1000 positives and you are calling him a bad bidder ? Maybe you should get more than 1 year and 3 months under your belt on Ebay before you do something like this. By the way his Feedback % is higher than yours also. Should I call you a Bad Seller ?

LTC has only a single neg that is a retaliatory from a POS seller with negatives out the wazoo.

From the ebay page on "bid retractions"

There are, however, a few exceptional circumstances (described in the User Agreement) under which you may retract a bid. These are if:
"You made a typographical error and entered the wrong bid amount. For instance, you bid $99.50 instead of $9.95. If this occurs, re-enter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your bid. If you do not place another bid, the retraction will be in violation of eBay's policy and could result in your suspension."

He's been a great customer of mine over the last year or 2. Why get in such a huff over it. So what? You'd rather him buy it & then return it? image

Oh, that's right, you're one of those really classy sellers that don't accept returns from unsatisfied customers. Guess that's because you're such a nice honest guy. Maybe THAT'S why he retracted the bid. I almost NEVER do business with someone that refuses to accept returns.

Why even use a reserve? No confidence in the final selling price? No confidence of the quality of the coin? Afraid to let the market decide what the coin is worth? Any good business person can see he'd be a great customer to have.

I'm not defending anything you allege he said to you just the facts of the transaction itself. In fact, if anyone that bids on one of my coins asks me to cancel their bids for whatever reason, I'd be happy to oblige them.

all he need do is "ask the seller a question" if he wants to know the reserve.
