I called on that and someone at PSA told me yes, however, Carol's recent post says anything that fits in a tall boy holder qualifies. If there is only one "tallboy" size holder, than there appears to be a discrepancy. I decided against sending any in on this submission. You might want to place another call, though. Let us know what they say.

I just submitted some in person on the tall boy special, they're fine.

Thanks guys. Bells, Morrells, and now Hires. Looks like we all have the same great taste in vintage cards! image

I read in another post that Hostess panels don't qualify for the special. They're about 7.5" tall. Do either of you know the max height that a tall boy holder will fit?

Thanks, Anthony. I've been lurking for a while and decided it would be better to participate.

Did you see this new auction listing? The Gillliam card must set a record for the all time worst potato chip grease stain. It looks like they dropped the card in a vat of oil while they were still making the chips. image

new listing for raw Bell Brands
  • blue227,

    Anthony surely saw this one:

    1958 Bell Brand

Lost another battle to Mr. Howard Engle in the war for 1958 Bell Brand supremacy!

Note the big prices on 1958 Bell Brands in recent MastroNet, Mile High and Goodman auctions.

Welcome in Kirk. You finally lost me with the Hostess panels, although everytime I look at them I think I'd enjoy them. I just don't do 70's cards.

yup, i've noted the big prices (with envy). too bad i don't own any. image

i just wish the collecting world would start to show some love for the '60 Bell set. 8 of the 20 cards are pop 5 or less. (and that's a set i do have!)

In working on submitting some Hostess Garveys, i bought a paper cutter at Office Depot today and have spent a good part of the afternoon trying to "master" how to hand cut these things. Based on my results, i should return the paper cutter for having a curved blade as i can't seem to get a nice straight cut. of course, i realize it's not the blade fault (although i feel better about my results if i tell myself it's curved -- or at least was momentarily)

I was doing the same thing and if you go into your wife's supplies she should have a 40 dollar nail file. Just file down the edge until its smooth. Since they are hand cut cards I don't see it being a problem?

    Kirk:

Staples sells something that is basically a clear paper cutter type thing with a small circle blade on it, and a ruler underneath. If you line things up right - you can get a nice even cut 95% of the time. After much trial and error, I was finally able to get nice cuts and pull PSA 9s and PSA 10s on my All-Star Game Program inserts.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Thanks for the cutting tips. I saw those circular cutters you mentioned but didn't get one since i wasn't sure how well they'd work. From what you say, they sound better than the traditional blade type which have given me inconsistent results.. I'll see if i can return the one i bought for one of the circulars. (i then need to get more Hostess panels to test drive on since i've already hacked all the ones i have.)

O/T: HBS, huh? I am a CBS grad myself. I imagine your collecting efforts will be very well capitalized on a go-fwd basis! image
