Recently received The Most Improved for the Set I put together for Grandson

My grandson was born with 10% of his Intestinal track and after two transplant operations I dedicated the collection I put together to him. He likes to sit with me and look through circulated coins to find special coins and he really likes the set I have put together for him.

See Picture of the award and My Grandson.

I can say he was very happy when I received the Award along with the beautiful wooden storage box along with the brass plate with the notation

DYLAN'S GOLD

He loves the award not to mention the set.

image Congrat's! Great Story and looks like one very happy little boy! This is what collecting should be all about!
  • Very cool, keep the younger generation interested!! What set was the most improved? (link please....)

  • Congrats - the smile on his face is the best reward of all!

Please do let us know which set is yours.

Sorry for not supplying the link in the original post. Here it is and it only warrants that the Grandson that went through what he has done (most improved) have his grandfather put together a set he could possess when I am no longer here for him.

He does have an interest in old coinage when I talk to him about different coins and the mintage he beams with excitement.

  • Wow Jim,

A finest set of all time! Way to go. Most of us only dream of owning a #1 set. And ya know what?
You already know how special Dylan is. As he gets older, he's gonna start realizing just how special
Grandpa is too. Enjoy you two!

I am so glad you posted this today. What an uplifting story in a world of turmoil. --thanks again. Don/MM
  • Dear Jim C:

That's a great picture and a great set of coins. That will pay for a few years of his college education 15 years down the line. Or, finance his business, if that's the way to go.

Registry Nut summed it up beautifully"You already know how special Dylan is. As he gets older, he's gonna start realizing just how special Grandpa is too."

    Warm regards,

    JimC: Really cool!

My grandfather got me started in coins too when he gave me an 1878-S Morgan silver dollar he got from the bank in 1959. It was bigger than my hand then.

He was not a coin collector but he did like those silver dollars.

Now, I think of him every day as I now proudly listen to his old grandfather clock in my home as it chimes every 1/4 hour. . Those memories and others of my grandfather, I will always cherish.

Jim: Congrats on the fabulous collection for your Grandson - you picked a wonderful series for him. Trying to locate perfect coins in that series is often like trying to find a "needle in a haystack". Not to mention, these coins rank among my personal favorites as some of the most beautiful coins in all of numismatics. Dylan should cherish them for the rest of his life.

  • First class way to take care of the YOUNG man. My grandfather was into stamps big time. He died when I was 11 years-old, back in 1955, and grandma sold his collection to cover his hospital and medical bills for $100,000 (100 grand.)

However, He did leave me 2 pennys - both 1909-S with those funny initials on them to start my collecting. And A career (he died on the job) which was the same as my father's, his only sibling, a brother, and mine. 100 action-filled years on the streets of Los Angeles. I loved it!
