New PCGS Photo Service

I had my $10 Indian set regraded and had PCGS take the images through their new service. The pictures are okay but I expected better I think. What do you think of the service?

Very nice set!! Beautiful coins!! imageimageimage

Considering I haven't seen the coins, the pictures look pretty good. You've got the advantage, being able to compare the pictures to the coins.

My question is, considering they're your coins, could they have possibly advertised any more?

For my money, I'd rather pay someone who will show off my coins, not the PCGS name.

I think the pictures are grand and the PCGS Logo

doesnt disturb me at all. However, all things are

    a matter of personal tast.

Great set - stating the obvious - and I like the fact the pics are uniform. After looking at a few, my eye got used to the PCGS logos and printing. I don't think there's anything wrong with having your coins "branded." At some time in the past, it must have been odd to see the first few coins residing in slabs, so perhaps it will take some time for people to get used to this new service.

  • JPK,

Is the lighting and full coloration of each coin accurate? Each of the Indians are truly gorgeous, but I can understand where you might think that the clarity and closeness of detail could be better.

I'm wondering if the smaller photo version you chose, which we would have to have for the registry, is somewhat limited in abilities.

Damn John! I am not sure what you were expecting? I think those images look fantastic. of course nothing will ever beat having the actual coins in hand image

If your as picky about your coins as you are about these photos I can't wait to see them in person someday.image

When you get the full 4+ meg file size image of each coin on CD you will then see "everything". You can reduce the sizes down to about 500K and they will have much more pizzazzzzzz.

BTW, just post that Rolled Edge to me and I'll suffer for you!image

Thanks for all of the comments everyone. I was expecting greater clarity and didn't even know I would be getting a CD-Rom. I will try to resize the CD-Rom images and see if they are better. I think the pictures are fine but really when you look at ANR photos or the photos Whitlow takes (yes, Saintguru I love your pictures) they seem inferior. I am just glad I was able to do this at all....

I think I am going to submit my Saint set soon as well....

I would much rather have the date/mintmark/grade on the coin pix than the cert number...

I think they were concerned with memory on their servers, knowing that these thumbnails would wind up in the registries.Hopefully the larger images on the CD will show greater detail.Still its great to be able to see more of the collections in the registry.

ANR "cheats" a bit with their photos, so I wouldn't consider them. They take the pics at a slight angle which greatly reduces surface marks.
