I am going to bid on one of these. Please let me hear your thoughts on both of them and your reasoning why. I think both look good but one is much sharper than the other.
Very tough question.....#1 is better centered, and appears to have a better registered front...clear with no print defects, has Piedmont back #2 has better corners, is slightly OC, has sweet corporal back. To me it is a toss up, some people are centering freaks, some corner freaks, some want perfect color with no visible print defects. So I would say pick the one you like best, either way both would make very nice additions to any collection! Good luck and let us know if/whichone you pick up.
Red Cobbs are always on eBay. You don't need to limit your choice to one of the two that you linked. As mentioned above, the PSA 5 is tiny. And the GAI 5 is not worthy of being in a PSA 5 holder. Yorktown knows the game; Yorktown plays the game. If it could be in a PSA 5 holder, it would be. Yorktown doesn't leave any money on the table.
for a really expensive card, you'll probably want to be more patient and take more time to research. the psa 5 cobb does look too short. i believe this card has been discussed in the net54 forum and most agree that the card looks too small for the holder.
the GAI 5 card actually looks pretty good...and, unlike the above poster, i have confidence in GAI in their pre war grading. but he does bring up a good point...york sells a lot of pre war stuff and they are usually in sgc or psa holders. i would ask york if this cobb is a consignmint.
I actually thought that the GAI looked pretty good. At times when i've submitted cards to them i thought they did a pretty good job on th prewar stuff.
Why should i ask about whether it is a consignment card ?
By saying that the Cobb is short means it is trimmed ? Why or how would it not be caught during grading ? I mean if we see it here would not a pro. see this also ?
bigtime: i was mistaken. the net54 forum had a post on a t206 cobb bat on shoulder. not this card you are posting.
in my opinion, york is a reputable dealer. ive dealt with him in the past and he's trustworthy. some may disagree and it would be good to get their opinion. he usually sells psa and sgc cards. but he has up now a few gai cards. i was thinking that maybe those gai cards were under consignment and thus he didnt slab them himself.
the psa card to me looks smaller top to bottom than other cobbs. for instance, this card fills up the entire space allotted for the card
Thank you Steve.......i will take your advice and hold off. My whole problem was there is such a diffrence between them that it makes you wonder how 2 seperate company's that are well respected could get the same grade for both of these cards. I know there is loyalty to PSA but at least looking with an unbiased eye i don't see how most would not jump at the GAI even though the centering is slightly off.
Even though i was going place a bid i will waite as some have stated here and see what pops up over the next few weeks and do some some comparisons.
Thank you and if anyone thinks of anything else please chime in.
The GAI one does look sharper, although I don't know how much of that to attribute to the black background. If both cards were in the same holder, it would be easier to compare. But, on it's face, I would buy the GAI one.

Reasons to wait:
PSA 5 = too small
GAI 5 = graded by GAI

I have several graded T206 Cobbs. My GAI and SGC's are conservatively graded, my PSAs are either accurately or over graded
