1961 GOLDEN PRESS

Is there any interest in this set ? I have recently bought 4 of them and was going to work on the set. But the more i look for them i am starting to realize there don't seem to be many around. Has anyone worked towards a complete set ?

Any info would be great.

Scott

I just completed a set, it took about 6 weeks. Still need to upgrade 1 card to 8 but otherwise I"m good. It's easy in PSA 8, gets tougher in PSA 9, especially Alexander, notoriously O/C. It's a good set to throw together while you're waiting for other stuff to show up.
About half of my cards came from other guys on the registry, pm me if you need leads.
I picked up 2 complete books as well, meant to break them out and grade them, but the cards I needed kept popping up and it seemed a shame to rip the book just to stick in plastic.

  • I've never really considered doing the set although its a nice one. I can tell you that no one has ever posted a Golden Press set to the SGC registry.....not sure about the PSA registry.

14 sets in the PSA registry, 8.61 to get in the top 5, 8.00 would tie you for 9th.
I didn't see any of these in SGC when I was looking, you'd have to submit yourself.

  • Wow.....8 weeks. It seemed like it would be harder than that. Well must just have been a dry spell when i looked. What do the whole books look like ? Does the perferations effect the grade much ?

there are a dozen or so 8's on ebay right now, over a third of the set
    Here's the album

and the auction for that album, the BIN price is pretty standard.

No idea what is involved with removing the cards from the album, other than you cannot cut them and expect them to grade. This is probably the easiest set at this level from this era.

    Owner's Comments:
I am so proud of my ONE Golden Press* card I can't tell you! I bring it with me locked in the back seat secure in the seat belt harness for all to wave at as we drive by. Sometimes I leave my children at home just so I can drive around in hopes of people looking in the car window to view my Chief Bender PSA 9 Golden Press baby with perfect perferation and registry. How could PSA not appreciate my baby enough to give it a Gem 10?? I love my one Golden Press and will send him to an Ivy league College & have him burried next to me when he expires! Long live my Golden Press Hall of Famer* Blessed is my card and best friend. : )
