Toning on modern clad coins... does anyone have any nice examples?

I'm assuming that clad coins don't tone as quickly as silver coins (correct?). Nevertheless, are there some spectacular examples out there of toned clad coins?

Here is a pretty toned clad quarter that was the subject of a thread on the Registry Board recenty:

  • Beautiful! They're as nice as any silver coins I've seen.
  • I seem to come across toned circulated Kennedy halves with a suprising frequency. Every now and again I grab a couple of rolls from the bank to pick for silver and sometimes find a coin that looks a bit like the one Russ posted. Any idea why this seems to be a fairly common occurance?

i would answer not true at all. think about it, the degree of tone or the fact that a coin tones at all, isn't necessarily a function of the alloy. rather, it's a function of the storage and attempts at surface preservation. another thing to consider, that most seem ignorant of, is that clad coins are actually just different sized nickels----25% nickel/75% copper. they should(and do) develop similar color as Jefferson Nickels.

i have nicely toned Ike Dollars, SBA's, some quarters and a few dimes that most likely resulted due to the paper wrappers, gold/blue/pink are the major colors i run across.
