I hate the bright monochromatic (esp. yellow, ugh) background of the 58. The 59 wasn't that much better. Methinks the 2007 and 2008 Heritage are really going suck. The 55 is similar but at least it has something in the background.

I like the 57 and 56 because of the stadium, field or action shots in the background that make the cards interesting to look at. The 53 is just a classic piece of artwork.

That's true, I was thinking of just the eight Topps sets of that decade, not including the 51s and any other companies.

'54 Topps is my favorite.
If you count them, '51 Red and Blue Backs would be my least favorite. If they don't count, it's '58 Topps (it used to be '59 Topps, but the more I look at them, the more I like them).
I've never been a fan of horizontal cards either.
