Hinged or never hinged

What does "hinged" and "never hinged" or " slighty hinged" mean?

I don't use stamp hinges, personally.

When you look at the back of a stamp, it can be pristine, it can have a big, nasty chunk of hinge stuck to it, or it can be somewhere in between.
