for anyone who is looking to buy a high grade aaron rookie...

dont use SMR to gauge how much you'll need to spend.

the prices for aaron cards on ebay are still way above SMR. I have been tracking aaron rookies over the past year and any graded PSA 6/GAI6/SGC 80 have been going on average 10-20% above SMR. This auction recently ended...

PSA 7

The corners are not that sharp and even it's left edge doesnt look so clean.....yet, this bad boy went for 87% above SMR. An Aaron SGC 84 card...badly off centered...went for a BIN of $1185 recently (still $35 above SMR). Bidding on the card skyrocketed to $700 in under a day...someone finally realized that this card will likely reach $1000 soon....and bought it at BIN.

In sum, if you're looking for a high grade aaron that "looks" good (i.e. good centering both front and back [which is tough to get on this card], good surface, solid corners and edges), then pony up. Otherwise, you can get an aaron rookie at or even a little below SMR at a PSA 6....but you'll have to bear the atrocious centering or some other problem. I bought an aaron rookie graded a PSA 6 for $800 two months ago. But, the reason for the price is two-fold: 1.) There were two other competing PSA 6's at the time...this one ending first (hence, other bidders might pass or may be less willing to bid up the price on this knowing two others are up for grabs) and 2.) The lettering "Henry Aaron" is out of focus. The only blemish on the card as it is well centered and PSA 7 corners and edges. Had the above two not been the case, my snipe of $1,000 might not have been enough. Lesson: Buy an aaron rookie when there are competing ones posted (the PSA 7 i linked to above had no competition once the SGC 84 was bought at BIN)...and take the average centering or some other blemish to spend at or above SMR price.

  • By the look of the font on the flip, that card was graded some time ago.

Is that the very first style flip? If so how long did they use it?

I have been looking for a nice PSA 5-6 for awhile.

  • How much would a PSA 8 go for? I have a nicely centered one. Although not actively looking to sell it, I'm still curious what you guys think it would go for, say on a Mastronet auction.

Wow, that is an old flip. Funny how we say old, but its prolly bearly a teenager. Just looks antique compaired to the new style.

An Aaron GAI 8 was up for auction recently

    GAI 8

Still not a bad price for an 8. Probably would have gone higher had it been in a PSA 8 holder.
  • That is one ugly PSA-7, no way it is close to a 6 by todays measures.
