Not to discount the strength of schedule factor, but let me remind everyone that many college teams get better as the season goes along. Others get worse, injuries, weaknesses exposed, jail time or they have peaked early. Remember we are dealing with kids. All we can base it on is how they did last year and who returns from last year. Ask the Boomer Sooner fans about USC's weak schedule last year. You think that had any difference in the outcome of that game?
Does a weaker schedule in theory make it easier to go to the BCS game, perhaps, that is supposed to be one factor. All I can say is looking at who returns at USC and who they recruited they are one scary team. Whether Urban can weave his magic at Florida we don't know, but given his history they should be contenders as long as he is there. If FSU can keep their folks on the team they obviously they have a lot of talent and will do well. However they may end being the third best team in the state, behind Miami and Florida.
The team that may slip into an enviable position because of schedule is Louisville and I sincerely hope this is not the case.
the irish can't talk. When was the last time they had a winning football team? Still hurting from that murder we layed on you in south bend? OUCH! Rix owned you! to the tune of 31-0...that's what I call redemption!
To all you people whining about USC being a pretender because they play in the PAC 10....get real. They're a damn good team, they just happen to be stuck in a weak conference. Look at how they dismantled O(verrated)U last year. A good team is a good team, regardless of what conference they play in. It's the same as the Eagles. Don't hold it against Philly that they play in a weak NFC East
Of course USC is #1, but it would be interesting if USC went 11-1 and 2 schools from the ACC, Big ten, Big 12 or SEC went 10-1. I would think USC's SoS (or lack thereof) would keep them out of the title game REGARDLESS of how good they really are. They're taking a pretty big gamble by scheduling all 4 non-conference games against weak teams: Hawaii (84/119), Arkansas (49/119), Notre Dame (33/119), and Fresno State (30/119) [source of rankings Athlon Sports].
It sounds as if you have a good recollection of College Football that goes back some decades... There is something about enjoying the games, the upsets and the teams that looked invincible. Thats what makes it fun... Off hand, I can't recall, but I think it was the 1974 season when Wisconsin upset Nebraska at Madison 20-17 and ended their 20 some game winning streak...
To everyone... its a game...sit back and enjoy it for what it is and don't turn it into something it was not meant to be.
