1978 Eddie Murray PSA 9

I don't have the funds right now in my account and I'm pretty sure it won't last long. I thought I could give some of you guys a heads up.

  • I take it $285 is a good price for a mint 9? I must say that the card is a VERY weak 9. The centering is okay at best and it appears to have a diamond cut or tilt.

Nice looking card, but is it just me or has there been an unusually high number of tilted-image cards in PSA 9 and 10 holders lately? I didn't measure that one out (cuz I'm lazy tonight) but it looks a wee bit tilted to me... I've bought from that seller before, Brett is his name. Nice guy, nice cards... in fact he just bought some PSA graded hockey from me as well.

SMR is $310 on that card, so $285 seems reasonable...but I haven't been watching these, so I'm not sure.
  • Ummm, another PSA 9 listed 08/12-08/17 went without a nibble on a BIN of $285. Another PSA 9 went 08/08-08/15 without a nibble on the $250 min bid, and the last one that sold went for $233.

I just submitted a 1978 Murray that graded 9 OC. Now I'll have something to stack it up against when it comes back from PSA.
  • Maybe my SMR is too outdated, the value it lists for a PSA 9 is $440.

  • Between the obvious tilt, off centering, and the marks up top on the red border, I would say this is one of those DSL 9's people talk about! I should go back and look at the one that sold for $233 to see how it stacks up.

    Where's Softy

If that's a 9, then I think this one has a chance - I have two like this.

I'm just plain too lazy to take the time to submit cards - since the only difference will be how they're holdered.

I paid $290 for my 9 when SMR was around $400. The price I paid was a reflection of the direction that all '70s cards were heading at the time. Now SMR is $310 and they sell for $233.

Will the world ever run out of 1970s vending?

I've been trying to pull this card for a while now in PSA 9 condition. I think the price is fair so I pulled the trigger. Tilt schmilt. Can I send you any cards as a finder's fee wick?

  • Stone - very nice card but that one will have a hard time getting a 9 -check out the two bottom corners and you will see why. GAI would give that an 8.5 because it is very nice all around with the exception of the bottom corners not being perfect.

IMO 1978 is a very tough year because of the "very" soft stock they used to make the cards. You can breathe on them and they crinkle. IMO 1975 and 1976 are darn near impossible with print marks and the OC cuts. I have opened vending boxes, racks, and wax packs from those years only to get a nice George Brett or Ryan that was 90-10 centering.

I would agree - I don't know where the card is - that pic was in my file - I was kind of being dramatic.

I really couldn't even see the corners on the scan of the BIN card. Now that I see Lee bought it, I hope it's a beauty!

BTW, haven't seen you around much. How you are doing well!

I'm glad somebody on this board was able to use the card. Thanks for the thought on compensation, CdsNuts. I'm not looking for anything, just looking to help some of the other collectors on the boards.

I am doing well and thank you for asking. We just had a little boy 7 months ago, and I have been building a collection for him already. I took the oldest one to the National this year and he had a ball. Hope all is well and I will be on here more frequently once football season starts. Take care.
