Hi
I had requested that SCD consider an offer to the members here. They were reading my ongoing SCD Survey Thread which I linked to my email to them.
I am going to present the email I received from SCD - I think this is a very nice offer and an opportunity for everyone who has never given SCD much chance to read some issues:
[Michael,
The email message you sent to Sports Collectors Digest was recently
forwarded to me. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I'm
interested in accepting your offer to mention a complimentary subscription to
the message board posters. Below is what I'd like to offer...
A complimentary 6 week subscription to those people who do not
currently subscribe to SCD
A complimentary 6 week subscription extension to existing subscribers
to SCD
Limited to the first 50 people who reply to this offer before August
27, 2005
I would prefer that this project not intrude on your personal time.
Therefore, I would ask for each person interested in a six-week
subscription to email us directly at sportscollectorsdigest@krause.com
A couple points of clarification in regards to the thread...
* SCD has not graded sports cards since December 2003
* SCD never authenticated or graded game used memorabilia. We did have
a marketing agreement with several authenticators in 2004, which is no
longer in effect.
* SCD, like many other publications and businesses, has been impacted
by the internet in recent years. While the size of the publication has
changed, the magazine is still a viable publication that serves the
sports collectibles hobby.]
I just want to say that altho SCD does not have the impact it used to, for the cost, it still offers a lot of info in one place to pick up on from week to week.

EDIT: I THINK THIS WAS A SUCCESS! Those who are new subscribers - expect them to come within 2 weeks - afterward, an offer will be send to further the subscription.

thank ya, sir!
You are a true asset to the hobby. I just emailed for an extension to my subscription, along with some suggestions on how to improve content and subscriber services.
Thanks for sharing,
Todd
<< <i>stupid question -- What's SCD? >>
There are no stupid questions...just dumbasses!
I have been a subscriber for 13 yrs. Here's a link to the publication.
At one time, it was considered the "Bible" of weekly/monthly publications. It was the way we purchased items, read about the hobby and kept up with what's going on.

Like always, you've come through. I e-mailed SCD requesting my 6 issues.
Thanks,
Mark

One copy of SCD, less than a buck delivered to my door. Every week, I pick up some tidbit of info that I would have missed - even with the info here, the beckett web etc.
For one thing - I don't go looking for the info on the net all the time - SCD is "in my face" every week.

I do think you're entitled to your opinion which I will respect.
But, why is it "a piece of crap?" I have had my moments with them but there are not that many hobby publications to fall back on.

<< <i>Michael,
We ended up with just under 90 requests. Just a guess, but about 80 of
those were new subscriptions.
I'll keep you up-to-date with the program.
Thanks very much for contacting us.

That means they honored 40 extra people - one thing of interest to me - I did not see that many people respond to this thread they were interested - it would have been nice to know who the people were - I would like to have people come back and tell me what their impressions are.
No product can improve without input.
Key points - if you are looking at SCD for item bargains - not gonna get it - but for general information - articles on stuff, you can't beat it IMO.
