Rim Error or Rim Damage on this Lincoln?

Whats your opinion? What could possibly cause this kind of error during planchet processing?

    Done outside the mint after striking, IMHO. Lay a wire across the rim, and pinch it with a plier, or in the vise. Then, clean and re-tone it. Viola!image

    A similiar type of error or rim damage is shown in this thread. The only diiference is its a buffalo nickel.Link to thread

    Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

    It's hard to say from here, but it might be a small planchet defect. This can prevent the rim from striking up.

    I've got a little rim damage on my Lincoln too!!

    From the obverse only I'm about 90% sure that the planchet was missing that bit of metal before the strike. That is a very odd shape for a disc or rim clip, though. I really need to see a pic of the other side to make a full determination.
