How long are chargebacks available?

I'm curious, how long are Paypal chargebacks available to use after an auction ends??
I've never had to do this so it's definitely a last resort. I've heard excuse after excuse and it seems like the seller is trying to buy more time.

I've already waited 3 weeks and nothing so far. I've been told recently the card isn't available, but the seller knows where to get another one and he'll let me know Monday if he was successful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on what to do.

You have up to 45 days now to file a claim starting from the date you sent him the paypal payment. I would file it on the 30th day. I think 1 month is plenty of time for the seller to come through. Good luck.

You can file a PayPal claim as early as 7 days after the auction. If the seller can't provide a tracking number, PayPal will do the chargeback within a week or so. I'm not sure what happens if the seller has no money in his account, or if he vanishes. I guess Buyer Protection then takes over; it will take longer and you may not get the entire amount unless you bought BP insurance at the time of purchase.
