Any Al Kaline fans familiar with this photo?

I picked up this 8.5"x11" photo while on vacation last month. On the back is an advertisment for the "Buick Metro Dealers" and it lists them all by name and address.

Any idea what year this may have been issued? It looks like a to mid- to late-career shot of Al in my opinion...

I think they started using that style away jersey in 1975, which is how Kaline looked around then.

    A761506,

Geez! Know thy Tigers and their away jerseys! Thanks for the tip.

    rbd,

I guess Al's hair was a little long in this shot. He never wore a beard or mustache from what I recall, so this must have been a radical look for him. This pic would look nicer "trimmed" with a blue-sharpie auto!

Might be 74, Kaline did not play in 75 was retired by then.

Hoof - Al signs in Detroit all the time. You may want to check the Gibralter Trade Center website to see if you can mail it in for his sig.

Al is pretty nice in person. I asked him to add "Hope you make a million bucks" to an autograph and he had no problem with that.

The Tigers started wearing that uniform style in 1972. Kaline retired in 1974 so the pic is from 1972-74. I spent a lot of my childhood hanging around the hotels and ballparks in Oakland, CA in the early 1970. Kaline was one of the nicest, classiest, and generous athletes I ever encountered.

The picture was taken at Municipal Stadium (RIP) in West Palm Beach at a spring training game. The Braves and Expos played there in 72, with only the Braves in 73 & on.

I also read he did some part time spring training coaching. Not sure if you'd go on road trips in that capacity, but it's possible.

Hey! Thanks to everyone who replied. I had thoughts of trying to find a home for this pic, but, thanks to ndleo, I'm going to try to get it signed for my own collection! I only own a handful of autos, so this will be a great addition!

    Thanks again,
