Anyone go to the East Coast National?

Anyone go to the East Coast National?
How was it?
How many tables? Any vintage tables? I'm particularly interested in 1933 Goudeys if anyone saw any in high grade.

I didnt notice any high grade 33 Goudeys, but Levi from 707 did have his entire inventory there with him, so if it's listed on his site, it was at the ECN.

Overall the show was about the same as it has been in years past. A lot of memorabilia dealers this time and guys selling boxes and packs. There were a good amount of vintage tables. Kurtz Kardz, 707, Mile High, Memory Lane, Kaiser Cards, JP Sports off the top of my head. Other guys that are fixtures too with lower to mid grade stuff.

Not a huge turnout when I was there at 6:45-8:15. Price was right to walk and browse though--$4 to park and $6 admission. The combo was still cheaper than ticket prices when Rothstein ran the show.

  • Yes, I was there last night.

Jimmy Ryan has done a great job to try and bring this puppy back to life but the crowd was a little light for an opening night of a "big" show.

The dealer lineup was pretty good for a regional show but deals were few and far between.......mostly vg-ex raw cards and overpriced PSA/GAI graded cards.

Global was there doing on site grading and so was Jimmy Spence for autographs.

Memory Lane was there up front and had a 71 Munson in a GAI-9 holder for $3,500.00, and I spent a great deal of time looking at the card but it appears to me like it was sheet cut by the angle on the top of the card.

I asked the person behind the table since they are major PSA dealers and had tons of other PSA stuff in their cases, why this was not sent to PSA as they could do better than the $3500.00 and his response was that he did not know....so I passed on the card.

If anyone ventures out to the show take a look at this card and let me know your opinion as I am sure that it will still be sitting in their case by the end of the day on Sunday.

Will be there Sat a.m. primarily for George Scott signature--on a '67 Sox bat (actually Scott's model bat). Sorry and surprised to hear tables weren't loaded with 60's NM+ material--. Sounds like another afternoon of slogging through VG to EX stuff for full book.image

  • by the way, any I ask: "why didn't you send it to PSA, because it obviously would be easier to sell or get more money", and I get the answer "I don't know" - I know they know
  • kenny,

Yes this is the same card as I can tell by the top edge cut and they had it priced at $3500.00 and would not budge on the price.

They also have a 71 munson in psa 8 for $750.00 that looked like it belonged in a 7 holder with 3 nicked corners and a rough bottom edge.

If they are so called big time PSA dealers, why not submit it to PSA and get an extra $2-3 grand for it?????, I guess some of us know
    the answer why.

If anyone has been or is going, please PM,....I have a quick question for you. Thanks
  • Show was terrible. Very poor attendance for a "major" regional show in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. Same dealers at all the other shows with the same overpriced inventory. Autograph guests were nobody special except for El Duque and Cone. Two of the 3 free autograph guests cancelled.

Just think this venue is done. Stick a fork in it.

I stuck a fork in it a few years back.
  • I used to attend this show religiously, but it's just not worth it anymore. Last time I went I walked out with a few wax boxes and that's it. The show needs some fresh blood. A good idea would be to set up a collector swap room/area. Let non-dealers bring their stuff and charge a nominal table fee. Keep it separate from the dealer show. This would at least bring some different material to the show and maybe spur some colletor trading interest.
