The Facsimile Autograph

If I am correct, excluding any Bowman series, Topps has not included a facsimile autograph on the front of any of it's regular series cards since 1982. Does anyone miss this?

Topps Heritage had a fax auto but then it was a "retro" set.
I have mixed feelings toward fax autos - if it's going to be a scribble, I can pass on it being on the card.
Having said that - what's up with Gred Maddux - this is how he usually signs stuff; we'ld all agree it's a piece of shit.
Now take a look at this card:
Now who signed this card? Greg? Topps? His mommie?
If I were to get his auto in person, I would bring this card along and ask him to sign it like the card and then get it authenticated on the spot - it would be a rare legible Maddux card!

<< <i>My understanding is that the signatures that Topps uses for facsimiles are ones that they obtain from the athlete early in their career. From what I've heard, early in his career you could actually read Maddux's signature (similiar to one on the card pictured). >>

This is true - Greg's auto was readable in the late 80's - I was being facetious to make a point that some guys fax autos may be hard to read right from the first day they jump to the majors.
Some team auto balls are almost impossible to read without a itemized list of signers and where they signed on the ball.
