Body bags.....what recourse do I have???

I sent in two nicely toned 1961 Proof Coins (Quarter/Half) that I personally cut out of the original set. NGC Body Baged them as Art Toning and they are 100% legit!!! Do I have an recourse or do I just accept that NGC doesn't think the NT coins are market acceptable?

I don't want to keep sending them back in and wasting my money......do they have some type of review process like PCGS has?

Send 'em another grading fee and they'll review 'em again !!!

I'm not aware of any type of "review process" other than re-submission. Ditto for PCGS, so I'm not sure what you mean by

You have to wonder if it would have been better to leave the coins in the cellophane where the service would have seen that there's a reduced chance it was AT. Let the service take it out of its original packaging.

Take a digital photo of the coins in the cellophane and mail it in with them.

I had the same problem with a 62 or 63 prf set, I then sent them to NCS then to NGC for grading they came back in NCS slabs as "damaged" man was i stoked......If I were you I would save my money!

It depends on reason why you want them slabbed. If you are satisfied with them, you can leave it as that. You know they are not AT. If you want to prove that to other people by having it slabbed, it may take several submissions.

The grading companies need to explain their reasons for bodybags.

While the submitter might think or know the grading company came to the wrong conclusion, they did state their reason for body-bagging the coin:

Agreed mark.....I understand that NGC is erroring on the side of caution...but I really want these coins in a nice NGC slab.........I guess I will contact them.

1. Detailed description of why a coin was bodybagged.
2. If bodybagged the coin should be slabbed as Genuine.

It had some very intense burgundy toning on both obverse and reverse and the color for both coins matched since they came out of the same set. The funny thing is that in almost all AT examples.....you typically look for multiple colors....not one single color as it is very hard to create a single color of toning if you are attempting to AT a coin.

I would keep them [raw] ... If you were to re-submit and re-submit; by the time they are in the holder they would have cost you a arm and a leg;

The colors don't sound way out of bounds. If you could only get some feedback to understand the grading ...

An expert should be able to give his reasoning behind the grade. If you carried the same coin into a dealer, I am sure he would be happy to explain the reason behind their grading.

I think by including grading marks that variability would be reduced and accuracy improved at the TPG’s.

Call them, and work your way up to the big cheese. Don't take no for an answer, fly down there, and demand your coins be graded! Them bastages.

One of the NGC graders contacted me after I posted my problem in the Ask NGC section over there.........so I am going to send the coins to this person for review....no guarantees of course...but I would like them to take a peek again.

Submitting them in the mint cello is no guarantee that they wont BB 'em. Coins can be AT'ed while in the cello.

That being said, I sympathize with you, as this happens all the time with TPG's.
