I'm a new guy with a question about grading......

and grading companies. I'm familiar with the greatness of PSA, warts and all, but how does everyone feel about the following grading companies:

GAI
SGC
BVG

Do they grade consistently? Do they overgrade or undergrade? Is it worth having anything from them in a holder?

I know companies like PRO are junk but curious as to everyone's opinions about the rest. Thanks, and stay classy.

  • Nice questions, but from my observations, no one on these boards has much of an opinion about other grading companies so I doubt you'll get an answer...

I do not own anything from any of the others, though I have heard that SGC is good for grading vintage cards. Not sure on GAI they are the new guys on the block and not sure what nitch they have filled or their reputation if they even have one. BVG I think in know for grading sheet cut cards and has the market on modern stuff. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    GAI - Graded Packs only
SGC - Decent - but watch for centering issues
    BVG - Avoid

I agree with carew, except if you find any bvg with the old flip, the subgrades on the back, you will be very happy with the card. IMO they used to be much tougher on the older cards and the old BVG flips I think all come from the time before they loosened up on their vintage grading.

SGC I think is great, but they can let a lot of centering issues slide by, but the good thing is that is easily seen on a scan.
