I bought most of these cards at NM for $2.50-$3.50 each (and roughly $6-12 for the semistars and such). Very pleased with the results, the number of 8s make up for the 6s. Most of the more valuable cards came in at least a 7 except for the team cards. Don't know why I have trouble with the team cards (except for the Braves card, which was nice). Don't remember the one Miscut card though and while that was one of the more expensive cards I paid for, I can get a return. Finally, there are some variations in here that I had no idea existed.

FWIW:
PSA 8 = 29
PSA 7 = 77
PSA 6 = 13
PSA 5 = 1
Qualifiers = 3 (even though I marked it NQ)
Miscut = 1

Avg grade for my set: 7.26

Nice group of cards - does this start your set or how far along are you?
I think hi grade '63s are some of the sharpest looking cards around.
Interestingly enough, that's the year I stopped collecting.

Buccaneer> All in all a very solid submission. I'm assuming that you submitted these under the 50s-to-71 special that ended on 7/31. If that is indeed the case, I must say I'm sort of disappointed in PSA. Your order contained at least three HOFers - Friendly Foes (Snyder/Hodges), Robin Roberts, & Hodges. And I'm not including the Leaders cards.

At the National, I submitted a 50-card order of 69T & 70T under that special. They actually made me pull a friggin 69 Orlando Cepeda out of the order telling me the special was "commons only".

Was your order indeed under the $5 special that eneded on 7/31?

Mark, throwing out the ones below PSA 7 and adding in the graded cards I have already, this will get me 25% done in PSA 7-8. I still have about 75-80 more cards I could submit but I want to take advantage of the 50s special first. Joevintage had a 100-card PSA 7 lot on eBay and I really wished I bidded hard on that but I didn't because it's my wife's birthday this week and she comes first.

I agree about the sharpness of this set. I gave up on the 1964 and 1965 sets even though I think those cards are also great looking, I believe the 1963 are holding their prices more because of their relative condition sensitivity.

Mike, it was. I actually expected those not to be graded but as learned here, sometime you can get away with it and sometimes not. Besides, Hodges is not a HOF and I don't think many know that Roberts is. I think cards like Roberts, Hodges and Stengel are really borderline "true" stars. But I'm just quibbling and thankful I got them graded. Sorry about the Cepeda though.

Steve> I guess all I can do is just shake my head and put it down to PSA being consistently inconsistent. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Between the inconsistent grading and inconsistent customer service, I just stopped sending PSA any orders for stuff I intend to keep. It just got to be too maddeningly frustrating.

bucc, why would you return the miscut card? doesn't sem fair to the seller. the card is not altered but something that PSA says is factory miscut .

Mike , I think if you mail in the submissions , you can get just about anyone you want on the commons sub, especially minor stars. i have done it many times and here all the time about orders with seme stars , hofs and minor stars on the sub as long as it is not a high value card. I think you just handed it in to someone on a bad day.

How about allowing the NL HR Leaders card (Mays, Aaron, Robinson, Banks) as a common! image
NL ERA Leaders (Koufax & Drysdale) and AL HR Leaders (Killebrew) are not too shabby either.

PackCollector> My question is why do I have to go through that hassle.

"Do I hand the submission in at National and hope this card is accepted on the invoice or do I send it in hoping it will slide through?" I mean why does that conversation even have to take place? PSA has always been extremely vague about what constitutes a "common" and it seems that it's defined differently by each individual person who receives orders in - whether at a show or at Newport Beach. And that's just wrong.

That lot was nice from Joevintage, but he got VERY strong bids. He did have some tough cards in the group though, but since I'm chasing 7s I figured they would appear again.

Please check your PM, I'm interested in trading or outright purchasing several of your cards. image
