Actually, I am much more drawn to the 1799 half eagle. The 1799 eagle is pretty readily available (put the keyboard down, I am not going to use the "W" word ), albeit a "generic" from the 1700's. But the 1799 half eagle is rare and very old. And, at least by what I gather from the price guides, the eagle sells for considerably more. As a casual early gold observer, I see 1799 eagles offered regularly but rarely do I see the 1799 half eagle offered. It will be a great pick-up for someone. The half eagle is a decidedly better value.

Your analysis is right on the money Robert. I sold a 1799 Eagle in an AU-58 holder at the last ANR sale where it brought 22 G's and change.

This one is a better coin and less money. I like eagles too but the undervalued coin is the half eagle not the eagle in my not so humble opinion. I think this ones a better variety as well, stay tuned on that.
