Gotta love that the current high bidder has "private" feedback.
Collecting Minnie Minoso Master and Basic 1967 Topps PSA 8+ 1960's Topps run Mega Set "For me, playing baseball has been like a war and I was defending the uniform I wore, Every time I put on the uniform I respected it like the American flag. I wore it like I was representing every Latin country."--Minnie Minoso
Yup - all that is needed is a bunch of EXMT cards - for 1975 these are very cheap - even raw "NRMT" cards are cheap, a little "non-stick" type glue, and the unopened pack scam is ready to go. Would be interesting to follow the winning bidder who would probably wait until after 90 days when the auction link disappears from the ebay feedback, before going ahead with the scam. Of course the buyer could very well be a legitimate collector or dealer...but again...would be interesting to follow this buyer to see if down the road he suddenly offers unopened packs of 1975 Topps.
I guess this means i should keep my 73' and 75' OPC Baseball Boxes unopened until PSA decides to grade packs. God forbid i just open these all up and sell the wrappers and the boxes and be considered a scammer. As the seller though anyone who bids with (private) will have to show their feedback rating or their bid will be voided on my upcoming auctions.
This auction looks legit. Someone else could buy it and then reseal all the wax packs, so that's a problem. However, there is a market for wax boxes and wrappers.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
I agree and I do not like the practice of selling this stuff. I brought this up recently and the fellings seemed mixed on it as well. I had bought a 77 OPC box and was considering selling the wrappers and box, but eventually tossed it because I didn't see the good outweighing the bad.
I do understand that there is a collectable value to a wrapper, but I think that anymore than (1) wrapper leads me to think the intentions of the buyer are for other than collecting. I also think that the seller should be more careful and have the good of the hobby at least somewhere in his scope. "Of course that's JMO. I could be wrong."(Dennis Miller, anyone?)
I think the sales pitch is honest, as you say too. The potential for greedy, shortminded deadbolts to use this premise to scam others is there, but the seller is on the up and up. Hell, providing the wrappers is a pretty forthright thing, versus showing unopened box.
