I hate that the mint is going to go ahead with their plans for these coins. And even though laws were broken, I'm glad they were stolen and recovered. Probaby the only way these coins exist today. I wonder what condition they are in?
What a bunch of idiots, why on earth would you let the government know about it> I know it is the lawful thing to do but it just seems stupid. I would have taken the finest one, talked to the buyer of the legit one and worked out a deal. So he upgrades his coin, no harm???
I'd have dumped a few overseas, donated the money the the chairmen of the tax committee's, got a lobbiest to write a one sentence rider to the joint tax bill, that they were legal to own or sell if you had them for 20 years. Then you can tell Treasury lawyers to kiss your bumper!!
Izzy is rolling over in his grave, how can my heirs be so stupid, then it occurs to him that they have his genes. What a waste the perfect crime of the century and the next generation is too stupid to know how to monetize the ten little Maltese Falcons left to them. GTS
One foolish action about to be followed by another----now that Uncle Sam is involved!
The Gov't. should sell them at public auction and use the proceeds to fund a worthwhile cause. I estimate a 35-60 million dollars would be realized.
Instead, they will sit at Ft. Knox until Goldfinger stages his robbery!
As for the heirs------screw 'em!! There is enough evidence to show these were stolen, and if (as rumored) that the same family has other gold, well I'd get a court order to search every nook, cranny, and safety deposit box and confiscate that stuff also!

Then confiscate the 1913 nickels, 1804 $1s and every pattern, too.
