Do you think it is right

Do you think it is right to allow Registry Sets with no listing of the coins in the set AND no pictures at all of any part of the set? I can sort of understand why you might want to keep some parts of it secret, but to provide nothing for anyone to enjoy is a little troublesome to me.

  • IMO if the owner of a registry set wants the recognition they should have to publish the coins for others to see, I can understand not having pics as not all people have camers to do this but the coins should be listed,, as stated this is just my opinion

  • I believe it is right to own a closed set and to not offer pictures. Why? Because PCGS offers these options.
I'm saying if different options are available then it must be right no matter which you choose.

However, I prefer open sets and I love images. A closed set without images only satisfies the owners wants and needs. All others are left out in the sharing of the set. I believe most collectors also would prefer open sets, and images, if possible. I've never seen a thread asking someone to close their set or
to delete their images. If you register your set, aren't you really asking to share it? Why only offer to
    partially share it?

So to answer the question: yeah it's right but it's still a shame. This could be a great thread. I would love
to hear from many members. From the lower ranked sets, to YN'S, to the heavy hitters.

I think if people weren't so darn COMPETITIVE with their registry sets and just listed them for the FUN of sharing, then all the sets would be open. Unfortunately, most collectors are not experts in photography and computer images so I can understand lack of pictures, but closing a set to viewing, especially if you are in the top 20 is an insult IMHO. • While it would be nice to have open sets in order to have a better sense of the accomplishments of those who have attained high positions in the set registry, I can also appreciate that some people may want to keep their sets closed. Why? Well ... while most dealers are reputable, there is the possiblity of smoe shady characters trolling the registries looking for certain well heeled individuals to which they could offer "select" upgrades for their registry sets for a "small" premium. Conversely, there could also be a few vultures waiting for somebody to upgrade a higher ranking set just waiting to see if they can acquire one of the cast offs from a higher set to fill a hole in their set.

Yes there is a place for the closed set. A person that is only buying the coins as an investment only. Some owners of PCGS coins are not really collectors in that they only see the coins in one way. By registering there coins they make them trackable if there is a theft or loss to some degree. I also feel that closed sets are a good way for dealers to protect there coins, and keep the cert. numbers from being stolen. There has been more than one case of fools adding coins to there set that they did not own.

  • I have many set registred and none of them are opened! Not for any of the reasons given here, I just choose to have them closed for now. When I completed my Walker set I opened it up. I would like to add pics to all the coins but I just don't have the time to do them all. I did most of the Walkers but none of the others.
So what I'm saying is, people have there own reasons for not opening there sets. It doesn't make us bad! I think it just pisses you off that you can't see what we have!
