1890 Gold Sovereign (New Pictures)

What would you grade it? I say XF40. But in any case those Dragons must be dealt with and St. George was the man...

I suck at grading gold, but my gut reaction is just a tad higher... EF45. The details on the dragon seem a bit worn, as are the highest points behind Vic's ear.

I think XF40 is about right. My gut instinct was VF30 or so but that is probably too harsh. It is a nice coin and it is probably EF (at least on the American scale. Not a British EF).

My gut feeling is VF but the reverse looks EF.

  • Is it just me or do the rims not match the wear on the design?

Now that you mentioned it, the rims do look kinda weird. Might just be the image though.

Cruzi, did you get any snow where you are?

The Jubilee Head comes in at VF, but it might be a photo issue. The reverse looks better.

  • It was the photos messing with my mind...

Nice coin, it looks as if it would go around VF in Aussie grading.

Its sub tropical where I am, although the southern states did cop a lot, some sort of freak cold event.

The weather is getting really stuffed up down here, some strange stuff this year.
We had a huge deluge and highest rainfall on record here, yet not 120 miles away 80% of the state is in one of the worst droughts ever, snow falling in places that it only snows once every 50 yrs or so, its just not right.

Yeah, I'm downgrading to VF after seeing the new pics. VF20.

Still a nice coin. Old gold is hard not to like.

I'd call it VF-30 or so. Neat old coin!

Lord Marcovan slew many a dragon in his day.

But he rode a gryphon, not a horse.

And he wore a bit more armor than St. George, there.

There's a picture of him on top of my eBay page. See if you can spot the error I made in the pic. image

LordM was never a king. Baron of Duntanemoor and the Letroshan Isles, yes. Second High Chancellor to King Malekarn of Veronia. Basically the #4 guy in the nation.
