Weekend Ebay gambles. What do you think?

Pulled the trigger on a few impulse buys just for giggles and grins.

First, a lot of 13 16th-century Hungarian Dinari. I already have a few of these types, and have always liked them as an inexpensive early dated coin to collect. After shipping, at works out to $4.65 each, which is considerably less than I've paid for the ones I have (I usually find VFs and XFs for $8-15 each, and AUs at $20++). Seems like a good deal; there appear to be some nice grades in the group.

This second one was a bit tougher to decide on, as the photography isn't all that clear. It could range anywhere from a poor decision to an outright steal. It was mislabeled as a Spanish piece. It is, in fact, a Peruvian 8 Reale, KM97. My 2nd edition Krause lists it as $60 in VF and $125 in XF. The seller had a BIN of $80 and a "Submit Offer" link. I offered $65 and it was accepted. IMO, it easily has XF details, and depending on what the gunk is on it, could be AU to UNC. I won't know until I receive the coin.

Thoughts?

Bump. (looking for opinions on the 8 Reale; I've seen gunk like that on coins before... the other thing I was thinking about belatedly, is that possibly an indication of a counterfeit?)

    Thanks,

    -Dan

Koinsolv may remove the 'gunk' if it is just gunk, it looks pretty nice, but I know nothing of that series..... image
  • Your 8R may be worth around $100+ Hard to say. I think it's real (sic) just needs to be washed a bit.
