1971 Munson PSA 9 bid-up to: Almost $ 6,000! Wow! Is it really worth that much?

It looks like, with almost 2 days left in this ebay auction, this '71 Topps #5 Munson rookie may surpass the $ 6,000.00 level. Wow!

I guess a Yankee collector, or maybe a '71 set registry junkie (I'm one too! LOL!) will pick-up this beauty? (@ $6000, I just gotta pass!)

Most sought after card in 1 of the hardest to find in NM/MT condition sets in Topps history.

    That's still incredible!

Anybody recognize any registry guys among the 36 bidders?

I don't want any registry or Munson aficionados breathing down my back but if I could find a nice solid 7 or 8, I could pass on the extra money it costs to have the 9. If I were rich? What the heck - give me a 10!!!

  • I wouldn't pay 6K for a 71' Topps PSA 9 Munson. Far more better cards out there to spend that kind of money on. Both raw and graded. Here's the kicker, you can get a raw (ungraded) Munson for less than $100.00. And that's the HIGH COLUMN. Too much money to burn, and no brains. Why spend 6K for a graded, when you can get an UNGRADED for a lot less?

Well rb, Munson has a HUGE cult following. So that helps boost the price. Alos I believe the pop report says this is one of 2, however I thought there was 2 9's running concurrently. So it is a huge lo pop. A popular set, and super tough black borders. Alos, this card seems to be off center everywhere you look. Maybe it was the placement on the sheet?? Oh yes plus he is a Yankee as well! At 6k, I'd ratehr have a clemente and koufax rookie PSA 7! But to each their own!!!!

I almost don't know where to begin here. And, I'm not sure if you are being serious, either.

It's funny, though, how much more in demand this card is than his rookie.

I think the above poster nailed it with the black borders...add in an incredible action shot (one of my all-time personal favorite action photos), trophy card, yankees adds up to a ton of people who want this card.

Throw in the extremely low numbers in 9, and there's your makings of a multi-thousand dollar card.
