A-Rod Breaks DiMaggio and Sheffield Record

for most Homers by a right handed hitter in Yankee stadium which is 20. It was a mammoth 485 foot blast. This is one of those records you have to put in perspective because since DiMaggio played in the old Yankee stadium the left field wall is now 30+ feet closer and the old right field wall now resides in the enclosed Monument Park. If DiMaggio had played in the refurbished Yankee Stadium he probably would have had 500+ Homers.

Agreed on the DiMaggio statements and have told people that for many years know. However, I don't know if he would have hit over 500 home runs since his career was not that long (13 seasons).

    Remember these Chuck Norris Facts

    1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
    2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
    3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris

Probably, but it would be interesting if they could calculate how many he missed.

There is an old story about the owners of the Yankees and Red Sox getting together in a bar and they were drunk and had a handshake deal to trade DiMaggio for Williams. The next morning they woke sober and called the deal off, Could you imagine how many more Homers Ted Williams would have in Yankee Stadium and DiMaggio playing in Fenway?

This sounds like one of those oddball facts that ESPN seems to love to dig up...just seems so trivial, that it can't help but be some sort of odd betting line somewhere in vegas.

Axtell, what did you mean by oddball facts? Did you mean that the old Yankee Stadium the Home Run walls were further out?

No it's one of those things like 'so and so set the record for consecutive scoreless innings at night' just one of those facts that you wouldn't normally even think about.

I think Joe D spent a few years in the Army during WW2. If I am not mistaken 3 seasons? with that and maybe an extra year at the end he then may have reached 500 hrs

Bob Feller lost his shot at 300 wins for the same reason.

    Good for you.

Yes he did. Ted Williams too!!!! Imagine the Over Paid, Roid Droid Punks doing the same today. NOT. I don't see any of them enlisting even in the Reserves. Not that I support the war but that's pretend it was WW II.

Williams also lost time for the Korean conflict as well.
