Neat little Islamic piece, any ideas?

I was going thru some of my old ancient junk and came across this neat little silver? coin with Islamic writing or symbols on it. Ir's about 10mm and weighs about .9grams. The metal appears whiteish and this lot came from an individual who is from Greece, the other neat piece I got from him in the lot was the Alexander II, Selicud Follis.

Take Care
Ben

Arabic isn't the only "squiggly" language used on coins, y'know. image

I think it is pre-Islamic and probably is silver. Afghanistan, India, central Asia? Pretty much in the Seleucid area, geographically speaking.

    I'm clueless. image

Oh I know there is other worm-writing. I just was putting a type out there for a possible knowledgable person (yourself) to come forward with info image

    Thanks Man

  • Obviously struck past the Umayyad and Abassid period (roughly 700-1000 A.D)-- my guess, an Islamic silver dirhem dating between 1200-1500

Hey Thanks, I was able to use the information you provided and further discovered it's indeed Islamic. It looks like a 1/2 drihem (very small) and is worth about 10-20 dollars depending who wants it badly enough. I'll just toss it into my "Ancients" Shoe-Box and mark the 2X2 Flip accordingly.

    Thanks Again

Well, there ya go. The good Coach knows more than I do on a lot of that stuff.

(Which isn't terribly difficult, considering my low aptitude for "squigglies".) image
