This was awarded to my father and is the first of my medal collection and the first time shown outside the family.. 100mm 301gms gilt Bronze.

On the reverse, at the top in small print reads :Impress on the mind of every man from first to the lowest the importance of the cause and what it is they are contending for -George Washington

I wish he had kept the piece that he wrote for the paper, I was out on Submarine patrol at the time and he thought nothing of it until the Freedom Foundation contacted him about the article. It had been submitted by a reader of the Washington Post editorial page. I do remember that there were a lot of Viet Nam protesting going on and his writing was protesting the protesters. He firmly believe that everybody had free speech granted in the constitution but no right to be heard was found there..
