Congrats Mariano!!!!

A career high 31 consecutive saves for him. Who says this guy is slowing down? His is better than ever and over the last few years he has developed a couple of new pitches. He has a miniscule ERA of 1.03 and hitters are batting .148 against him. Mo is as close to perfect as there is. When a batter gets a hit it is usually a bloop or broken bat single. After all baseball is a game of inches so some hits are expected. image

And the yankees still are going to miss the playoffs. I wonder if his era is so low because of so few opportunities. If he actually was needed in some games, it'd be much higher.

Didn't he blow the lead the other night in yet another yankee loss?

Yeah, he's so good that even Sox fans gave him a standing ovation at the beginning of the season...

Jeez - are you kidding me? Talk about overlooking the obvious...

I'd like to say that the Red Sox will be happy to face him in the fall once again, but unfortunately, the Red Sox will not be hanging around any golf courses in Panama where Mariano will probably be.

When he gets to 84 consecutive saves like Gagne, give me a post...as it is, he's barely 1/3 of the way there.

    Next post, please!
  • Gemmy10Gemmy10 Posts: 2,990
How is Gagne faring now? How many saves does he have? How does the all important ERA of Gagne compare with Mo?
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Now it's era? I thought you were bragging about the 31 saves in a row?

I think you should learn to read spam boy, or are you too busy making out with your poster of your hero of the week mariano rivera to notice?

What's happened to big unit? He was your first man-crush this year.

Then it was Robinson 'the next Carew' Cano, whose BA has dropped over 20 points in 2 weeks. He's not your hero anymore?

Now you come drudging up with Mariano, who as good as he is, won't mean anything since (a) the yanks suck so bad they can't get him in games to make a difference and (b) they won't be making the playoffs anyways to take advantage of him.

When do you start breaking out the Giants and 'your' team stories?

Way to avoid the topic (again) spaminator.

And don't you know that cheech and chong always came out on top at the end of their movies? Why would you want to call 2 of your supposed enemies heroes?

Let's not change the underlying theme - Gemmy. Unless you are an avid toker.

Rivera blew the game today...guess that means Spammy is a curse?

He comes on bragging how he has 31 consecutive saves and WHAMMY! blown save!

  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Thank you for that, Spammy! Forget the curse of A-Rod, now there's the curse of Spammy! image

C'mon, tell us all about the next incredible Yankee feat, please!

You guys beat me to it. I just came in from outside in our pool and was listening to the game on the radio. Yeah, I am a curse. I was thinking the same thing but don't believe in curses but sometimes I wonder. image It made for one helluva exiting finish. Bern, Baby, Bern!!!! I would have been at the game but had other plans and sold my tickets to my brother-in-law's brother. Somehow I think I enjoyed the game more lying on our pool lounger rather than braving 100+ degree heat. I am going to the KC games in two weeks and the Boston game in 4 weeks.

Hey, we are talking about Mariano here. He currently has 367 lifetime saves. When his career is over I am confident he will have over 500 saves and will be the all-time leader.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
500 saves? That seems like an awful lot for him - 30 or so a year for 5 more years? He's 35 now, so you mean to tell me he's going to be saving 30 games a year into his 40's? I wouldn't be so sure.

Funny, what a constant reocurring statement.. image For someone that CONSTANTLY posts on this board after a Yanks' win, I would think you would DIE for any chance to see your adopted/bandwagoned team image

What a jerk. I bought a partial Season Ticket Plan for Saturday games a few years back since I was getting tired of paying through the nose for premuim seats. My intent was to go to 3 or 4 games and sell the rest. Yesterday, my daughter had a soccer game which we knew well in advance. I don't know why I bother responding to your inane posts.

Mark Texiera was the first player ever to go 2 for 2 against Mariano in his career.

Jerk? I'm the jerk? You sure about that, Spammy? I would think child services would say differently... Who's the one staying up all night after a Yankees win posting on a message board rather than being with their wife and kid (allegedly). Jerk? While your alleged wife is laying in bed by herself and you create thread after thread after thread, I'm the jerk. Boasting about a $200M+ team to people that you most likely never, ever meet in person, I'm the jerk?

    Pot meet kettle.

I see no sign of him slowing down. He has been pitching better than ever since he has developed a few new pitches. If it wasn't for him the Yankees would probably be 10 games out. Last year he had 53 saves and he will probably have another 10 saves before it is over this year.

Good one, Spammy. Did you think of that comeback all by your self? Your originality is pretty weak.

You get Spammy for obvious reasons. Shanty-Townie? Can you elaborate on how you came up with such a clever name?

Another blown save by the great Rivera! To the bottom dwelling Tampa Bay no less - all this since this landmark post was made last week. The beginning of the end? Could be...

    Spammy.

They play a whole season. You can't take a few games and make that the season (as much as you'd like it to be!).

Quit trying to take things out of context ya homer.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Not to mention, Schilling is not a closer. He's a team player, though - and doing what he is asked to do in order to help the team. Your boy Rivera is doing the same job he has done for almost 10 years. The comparison is so far off, I'm surprised you'd try and make it.

You'd think if Jeter were a true team player, he'd have stepped to third and let the better shortstop (Arod) play? The yankees are a team full of 'me-first' guys...Sheffield (I'm not respected! There's no leader on this team!), Jeter (mentioned his shortcomings), Kevin Brown (let me punch this wall...I'll show that wall!).

No wonder they are so mediocre.

Instead of praising the Yanks or bashing the BoSox, please take some time to enlighten me with your witty insight.

Thanks in advance and look forward to reading your response.
