Bulk coin lots?

There's nothing like scrounging through piles and piles of foreign coins.

For lack of finding anything locally, I'm buying some on Fleabay for giggles and grins.

Has anyone here tried any of those sealed 10kg Bundesbank lots? I assume it's almost entirely latter-20th century material, and common stuff at that, but the feedback from buyers is almost universally positive from a variety standpoint. I checked out the feedback from buyers from a number of the sellers of this stuff, and am seeing no complaints at all.

I figure, at $6.13/pound shipped, it's reasonable. (I can always sell the dregs to a local dealer at $3-4/pound).

Any experiences?

I got one -- it was a better than average mix, with a few nice surprises.

Expect about 8 of the 10 kg to be late-date pre-Euro coins such as Spanish pesetas, Belgian and French francs and Greek drachmas. Lots of Eastern Europe communist stuff, too.

    Bulk lots are a blast.

Here is one of my bulk lot stories, printed on Carl Wohlforth's website.

I think I tried a Bundesbank lot once. It was fun. Not the best mix I've had, but not the worst either.

Ajaan used to have the best bulk lots- he had a local source in NY. I understand the fella who was his source may not be in business much longer though, due to health problems. image

The last bulk lot I got from him wasn't as sweet as the old days, but still better than most. And lots of bang for the buck.

i've done a bulk lot on ebay before too.

This world & ancient coins forum is what started my interest in foreign coins, but it was a bulk lot that really got me going.
I got a great mix of coins and got quite a few coins from pre-1940. Only problem with my lot was that it included to many modern coins from Great Britain.

Was worth the money and was very enjoyable. I recommend doing a bulk lot at least one time.

If Ajaan is offering you a bulk lot jump on it OR I WILL!

The last one I bought was from him and it was great!

I bought all 30 pounds. image

So at this point I have 87 pounds of foreign coins incoming.

    30 from Ajaan.
22 from Ebay (sealed Bundesbank bag)
35 from Ebay (dealer selloff, supposedly heavy in 1940s-1950s material).

When they arrive, I think I may pull a random 1-pound sample from each lot and do a writeup of what I find in each.

    Fun!

*sigh* Now I need to get a new 20th Century Krause. The old 1998 edition I've been using ain't gonna cut it...
