I think I got a new collecting interest

Hello everyone,
Well it has been a while since I last posted here, but I quit world coins, including those from my home country (The Netherlands) 2 years ago. I occasionaly posted here, but that stopped also(
). Yeah I know, I'm sorry...
Anyway, I always have been interested in history. I mainly love coins from ca. 1830 to 1920, and know a lot about the history of those times. But, I have to admit that I know more of American history than the history of the own area where I live![image](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif)
(yeah, whatever).
Thus, I realized that I had to do something with the dutch history, otherwise I can better leave the country immediately right now (I want to do it in a few years to move to the States, but not yet). I do collect stamps, but not very actively like I do with coins (looking up facts and pictures of the year they were produced) Coins of the Kingdom were out of question since summer 2003, it's right now here like collecting in the US in the 50's
.....
So, I looked up other area's, and came to this:
Drummroll please
DUTCH HISTORICAL MEDALS
I also was never interested in medals, but that's probably because I only looked up the 20th century issues, who are just ugly in my mind. I knew that a book dealer here in the Netherlands were I reguraly buy from also deals in these medals, so I looked up his inventory....
After some browsing, I decided that I wanted do something with the time of the 7 provinces (republic), which was from 1579 to 1795. So, I'm now collecting this:
Dutch historical medals, 16th century to 1795
Okay, I was still browsing the dealers inventory. I came up with these 2 medals:
1745: Silver medal 27MM- Unrest in the Netherlands due to French peace offer.
![image](http://images5.theimagehosting.com/1745a.jpg)
![image](http://images5.theimagehosting.com/1745b.jpg)
Some background history: between 1740 and 1748, there was the War of the Austrian Succession. This was between England, Austria and Holland against Franch. This war was about the Austrian crown.
On May 11, 1745 there was the battle of Fontenoy. The 3 country alliance lost, and southern city's of the Netherlands were now in French hands. Presumerably, the French offered peace, and due to this there came unrest in the Netherlands, and that's were this medal is about.
More info about that war and battle can be found here and here.....
The other medal is this one:

I will post history facts about this one tomorrow.......
Do you people like them?? And maybe you have other historic medals to show to the public?

I think these medals are very historic, and many are very cheap compared to coins in the same quality of the same area. I paid together about $75 for these 2, which is VERY cheap IMHO.... The last one has beautiful toning on the reverse, which probably would be worth a nice premium on a US coin. (I'm not a fan of toning because of the premium, but when there is no premium, I like them
)

Precisely the way to be.
Dirt cheap prices to boot. Seems like all the medals I like on Ebay are a zillion bux....
One of my favorite little ones below (about the size of a U.S. nickel, prooflike surfaces, although you can't tell in the pix). Then a beautiful (IMO) George Washington medal I picked up locally. No clue if it's worth anything; I just liked the relief.
1/2 Cents
U.S. Revenue Stamps
On a side note; The Austria War of succession was also the last occasion a British monarch led an army into battle, at the Battle of Dettingen. Unfortunately for George his horse took fright and ran off half way through the battle, even more unfortunate the king was sat on top... he came walking back some time later.
Around here, it was known as The War of Jenkin's Ear. The decisive battle, The Battle of Bloody Marsh, happened just up the road from me, on July 7, 1742. Forces of the British General Oglethorpe defeated the Spanish invaders and pushed them back down into Florida. There was another skirmish on the same day, near the town of Frederica, which was called The Battle of Gully Hole Creek.
I once had permission to use a metal detector at a church which is near the Gully Hole Creek site (and also near Oglethorpe's villa site where he lived while in Georgia). I found a Spanish button from the period. I also found two 18th century Spanish coins, but they postdated the button and the battle.
DPOTD
The first medal has on top TEKEL. The last E is repunched and the L is struck over another T....
Wouldn't do anything to it's value, but I think it's an interesting detail
