Wow!

Here's another example of a coin that seems to be way more rare than Krause gives credit. It's amazing how the prices on many of these pieces just keep getting pushed up.

  • I think the buyer made a good deal, these are hard to come by in grades above VF (and uncommon in any grade).
    The prices have always been higher than KM values for scarce/rare coins from Portugal and former colonies (and the common ones are way overpriced).

    Not many. That's the only one I've ever seen for sale. I only wish I could have afforded to bid. image
  • In St. Thomas coins, surviving rate is more important than mintage, coins of 10 escudos 1939 and 1 escudo 1951 are easier to find than a 2.5 escudos 1951 (with the exception of the 1971 series, all 2.5 esc. coins are the toughest of any given year/series)
