Oh well.....I guess I will have to wait another 2 years at least :(

1950 Bowman Mel Parnell PSA 8

Hows this for SMR??? SMR on the 8 = 1650.00

With a minute to go it was at 2193.00, I had my bid ready to snipe at $2705.00. Little did I know the little cardboard #$&%%% would hit close to 6 G's, but I should have known given the white collars I was up against.

    Gmoney,
Has it really been 2 years since you saw the last example of this card in this condition?

  • Havent seen it in a 8 over the last five years I have looked for it. BMW cards sold a SGC 92 about 4 years ago for 2550.00. I saw a PSA 7 about two years ago on ebay, I missed that by a couple hundred.

    Consider yourself fortunate.

If you'd won it, your quest would be over :
hence your life would have less meaning tomorrow.

Plus, with two underbidders coming in at double your snipe,
you can figure on continuing your quest for quite some time. image

I hope so. I only want a 7 in this card, I am only going for the set in near mint. It would have been nice to strike this one off the list. For all the other cards in the set I just wait until they show on E-bay. But for this card, I check several different dealer pages, auction houses, card shows, ebay, yahoo etc..... very frequently. It definately is the big one, people are willing to spend big $$$$$ well beyond SMR for it, and unfortunately, a 6G card is a good part of a downpayment on a house. Luckily, unlike some of the older collectors out there ( i know this sounds bad), I do have time on my side as well. I dont think there are too many 27 year olds out there collecting this one. Maybe I should buddy up to some of these guys, and maybe get the damn card trhough a will!

  • Wolfbear,

I was prepared to add 1M to SMR, I thought this was reasonable. I was totally blown away, maybe its the 8's? I guess there is more competition for the premium cards. I think I will stick to the 7's, and not bother with the higher graded Parnells in the future.

I thought about this one all week too. Damn!!

For what it's worth, I don't think it was a particularly attractive card for an 8. You can probably find a nicer 7.

For what it's worth; that card looks funny to me.
  • Simply amazing what some of these tougher PSA graded cards would go for.

For 6K I would rather buy ten thousand 84' Topps Ron Kittle Rookie cards!
