What do think of these?

Here are some cards most collectors don't see too often. What do you think?

  • I love the caricatures. I bid today on a raw set of soccer tobacco cards done in a similar style, but no dice in the end.
  • As a collector of British movie cards (as well as some misc. sets that do have golfers in them as well) from the same 1930's era, I would say that these golf cards fit in perfectly with those. For whatever reason, the colors they used in Great Britain before the war were just perfect and the drawings (whether more realistic or charicatures) are just great. So much more than just black and white pictures.

Great set VGC. Thanks for the posts.

Is it just me, or do all those pictures of little red Xs look the same?

When I first looked, all I saw were the little boxes too.
Now I can see the pics. Must have been a geocities hosting issue.

Fun stuff indeed, but what ?, no pose of a golfer doing a 'fist pump' after making a putt ? image

  • This is an extremely tough set in high grade with several cards not having received a PSA 7 or better grade yet.

Cubfan : I agree, the set is a nice change from the B & W photos of the era.

I too am a fan of the caricatures. There are a number of sets during this period with great caricatures covering several sports.....boxing, soccer, cricket, tennis, etc.

Also, the lack of collectors make these cards very affordable.

  • Yes, these are some cool cards.

I just put up a few I had not run across before:
    1979 Venorlandus Ltd Jack Nicklaus
and several 1926-27 GOLF and Lawn Tennis cards.
Even ran across a 1987 Fleer Cello Pack (GAI 9) with Barry Bonds rookie on top.
    Whoo hoo....

    Neat Stuff

Geez, with a title like that I was expecting something else.image

    Stingray

  • Sorry about that Stingray. There have been some visually delightful threads from time to time.
