Roman Coin Sunday (New One)

I believe it's a Constantinopolis City Commerative. With Constantine on the front. That is pretty boring, it'tn the reverse with a "Winged Victory" leaning on the prow of a ship holding spear and shield. They really squeezed a lot onto these ancients...

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
"And all these idealized female figures may offend those namesakes of Lesbos! And to call them godesses! Ah! That will cause riots in the western coastal courts! And the educated peasants of the northeast will revolt!"
"But can't we make the image smaller and add a few more words to it expressing our patriotism, righteousness and love of God?! If we don't, surely the southern states will protest and raise weapons at the Emperor's representatives!"
Yep... amazing how ancient coins bear more complex images and have higher relief, more concentration on the design elements, etc.
They didn't have to wrangle with PC BS. (At least not in ways we do now.)
Sure would be nice if we could do a bit better than our current batch of coins in America. Less writing, more design!! Dammit!

My wantlist & references
I'm still searching for one of the type with perfect, near-UNC eye appeal
(found one a while back and didn't grab it in time... still kicking myself!)

<< <i>I just bought one of those last week (not as nice as yours though). Mine has the Rome mintmark. Great coin. >>
Have you got a picture? I'd love to see it. I only posted the interesting and best side of this coin. The obverse is pretty worn and has the usual portrait of Constantine, nothing spectacular...
