OT: I just got to hear some real good cussing in German!

Our Executive Chef, Johannes Klapdohr, just blew his stack out there in the kitchen. image

Nobody can wig out like a chef. And a German chef, well... wow.

Glad I can sit in here in the Room Service office. Chefs carry knives.

Actually, Chef Johannes is all right in my book. A lot of the staff don't care for him and mock his accent. He has the typical German reserve, but I melted some of the ice back when he first came aboard. I slipped him a few late-1800's Imperial German coins and he was impressed.

"Ah! Zose were the good old days in Germany!" he said, admiring the coins with their Imperial eagles.

That is a feeling of superiority, not reserve. We are just waiting for our chance to take over the world.image

I think thats right... image back in the good old days, we were expected to be in lobby greeting guests and making sure they were not too confused... that was before the IBM Selectric II typewriter... That's right hotels existed before all these high tech gismos that only the chosen few can figure out how to use...imageimage

Compared to Gordon Ramsey he's probably a lightweight in the verbal lashing dept......

The problem is, we don't learn abusive language in the English lessons at school, so when we want to curse we can only do it in German. image

  • One of the most descriptive and imaginative languages to curse in is Russian, the literal translations of some of it is really quite amusing. image

I used an old Selectric II typewriter in the early 80s, and so I suppose you're talking about the early 70s? By the way, I loved that typewriter, having used both Selectric I and Selectric III versions; the Selectric II was a fantastic typewriter.
