    Interesting.

I have no idea. I rather doubt it is a "coin" by the correct definition of the word, but the engraving style and lettering and so forth seem right for 1581.

Note there is no 'J' or 'U' on the reverse. Or is the 'U' written the Roman way 'V'?

Dead King is right- in Latin, the "J" would've been written with an "I" and the "U" with a "V", I'm pretty sure.

Another possible mark of authenticity. So it is probably an authentic item from 1581, but whatthehell is it? image

I just made sense (somewhat) of the obverse design for the first time. For some reason, my eyes didn't recognize that fella standing there the first time I looked.

At the current price of $15.50, I would say that is well worth a bid or two.

    If one of y'all doesn't, I will.

I didn't see it had already ended. image

Hopefully one of the Darkside brethren won it. I don't recognize the ID, though.

Sure would love to know what that is.

Aw crud... there's a name for those but I forgot what it is (schulpfennig?). They were little tokens for school kids back in the day. All the ones I've seen were German (I believe mostly Nuremburg area, but my memory's failing on all counts here!).

I'll see if I can track down another... I seem to remember crossing one recently.

Yep.. they're called schulpfennig. Here's one at CGB with some info for those who read French.

I should have bid but the $5.00 for shipping turned me off.
