Clear tape

Can cards be sent in boxes wraped in clear tape?

Comments

  • I dont believe so if you want to send it via Registered mail. I think its ok for the other types of mail. Anyone else know for sure?
  • Yes, though it's probaly not the best idea.
  • Thanks, guess i better buy some brown tape.
  • Absolutely NO clear tape. Only brown paper tape. Most post offices will wrap them for you. Also NO address labels or they will have to rewrap the whole package in brown tape......
  • Brown tape only for registered so they can stamp edges and corners
ADVICE....Wise men don't need it and fools don't heed it
  • Ooops. My bad. I meant to say absolutely no clear tape. The PO will still wrap them for you though............
  • Good point . . . Make sure it's the brown PAPER tape that one must personally dampen.

I made the mistake of purchasing the shiny, brown 3M tape . . . No good.

    Good luck.

The shiny brown tape is no good, as the ink they use to stamp the parcel smudges right off of it. The paper brown tape is the only way to go, but I can never seem to find a place to buy any. My local PO usually has a roll they let me use.

Cardcounter wasn't very explicit about what he wants...

    Registered boxes require paper tape.

Otherwise, I have routinely closed boxes with clear tape.

Or just ship a card like this:

PSA says cover the whole box with brown postal tape, but USPS says you only have to cover the seams for registered mail.

The registered mail thing is a recommendation, not a requirement. If my submission isn't all that valuable I just ship to Newport Beach well packed in a USPS Priority box with delivery confirmation, not registered, no brown tape. PSA doesn't raise a fuss about that. The only problem is when I forget to write the level of submission(s) on the outside -- then it goes in PSA's "whenever" pile, and my own fault too.
  • I think I found the right kind of tape for registered mail at Office Depot? Its brown paper tape and says reinforced gummed carton sealing tape on the package. I bought a roll today. Office Depot had much better boxes and mailing supplies then Office Max for some reason. It looks like the same kind of tape used when I get packages back from PSA/DNA.
