Who is your NL MVP....Lee or Pujols?

Very close to call at the moment.....Lee has better numbers, though Pujols is not far behind. However, the Cards will likely finish with baseball's best record while the Cubbies look destined to miss post-season play.

I guess my vote goes to Albert Pujols. Anybody else?

Here is an unbiased opinion - image

    Albert Pujols.

Derrick Lee is already slacking off a little. Pujols is gettting warmed up, and the Cardinals will win the Central.

I think the White Sox will finish with the best record, so how about Pablo Ozuna. image

If Pablo doesn't get it, then I would think Lee will get the most votes.

However, I have many Albert Pujols cards, so I'd rather see Pujols over Lee.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Akbar - Dont forget Juan Uribe, Aaron Rowand or Joe Crede for MVP. But thats for the AL image.

There are still a lot of games left. Maybe a sleeper might emerge.

Pujols should be on his way to a third straight MVP Award this season, but some idiotic writers selected Roid Bonds over him. Lee is having a sensational year, but Pujols could still end up with better numbers, and some long overdue hardware.

They are both great players, but where would the Braves be without Andruw Jones? I don't think he'll win, but you have to believe he'll get some votes.

That said, I'd vote for Lee.

if Lee wins the triple crown, it would be very hard not to give it to him.

I agree with Cal, however if lee does not win the triple crown and Pujols keeps on his yearly tear Id think he should finally win it.

    zef,

I didn't say that he was "Heating Up." I said that he is "getting warmed up", which means he is fixin' to go on a tear. You heard it right here - Albert Pujols will win the batting title!

Yet somehow Ted Williams managed to do that exact same feat (winning the Triple Crown but not the MVP) - twice.

I believe that only happened once to TEDDY BALLGAME.

    Lee is a solid choice.

    Miguel Cabrea (Marlins)

IMO: Too early to tell! Cabrea should pass Lee in batting average (maybe HRs, RBIs). And give Pujols a run!

    We need more time!

    Lee.
  • It did in fact happen twice to Williams. First in 1942, when he lost the MVP to the immortal Joe Gordon, and again in 1947 when he lost to DiMaggio. Many point to the high concentration of sports writers in NY (and consequently high number of MVP voters) as well as the obvious Yankee dominance throughout the decade. Not to mention Ted was not in good graces with any of the voters, even those in Boston.

I doubt that precedence would hold though. I think if Lee could pull off a triple crown, he'll win the MVP, even if the Cubbies finish in the cellar.

Cabrera has been putting up some nice numbers as of late, and if the Marlins make it to the Playoffs it would be because of him.

Right now he is leading the Nl in hits, second in average and fifth in rbi's.

I dont know if Lee could keep it up, However many people believe that Pujols deserved at least 1 or 2 already and since he was so young they didnt give it to him before, i think he is due for one maybe this season.

mayve even Clemens could have a claim to it as well

At the All-Star break, I would've conceded that Lee was the N.L. MVP. But I think Pujols has since overtaken him, not so much because of his individual performance but because the Cards are still winning despite the rash of injuries, whereas the Cubs just suck. Cabrera's certainly got a chance, though, especially if the Marlins can get into the postseason.

I never realized that about Teddy ballgame. In fact he did not win MVP the year he hit 406 either. Joe D did. well at least that yr Joe did hit in 56 straight games.

I think Pujols will win the MVP because I don't think Lee can win the triple crown.

It would be tough to beat out Pujols and Cabrera for average and just as tough to beat out Pujols and Dunn for homeruns.

Pujols is simply amazing and only 25 years old. Cabrera is a real gem too, and he's only 22! No wonder these guys have rookie card prices going through the roof. The possibilities are endless!
  • Pujols, and the vote won't even be close..........................................................................
  • How about Andruw Jones?

After today, I definitely have to say David Eckstein.

  • Albert Pujols. He's been the man for the first five years of his career. The numbers he puts up year after year are absolutely phenominal. Lee in my opinion is having a fluke season if you look at his averages for his career.

  • The beast pictured below gets my biased vote.
With Rolen out and the Cardinals with a big league in the Central it's definetly his year.

Andruw Jones deserves some credit for playing on a team filled with rookies.

These guys are so fun to watch. I got to watch Pujols, Jones, and Cabrera in person this week. Such incredible talent!
