PCGS comment question

How many percetage of red color is needed for PCGS to give a RED comment on copper coins?
and Red Brown?

    A lot.

    I don't really know, but I would guess...

    90% for RD (Edit: no, probably more than that. It really has to be full Red.)
    70-75% for RB

    Just a guess.

    I have seen some BN coins in both PCGS and NGC (and, for that matter ANACS) holders that had quite a bit of red still there.

  • According to the PCGS Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection book ...

    RED = at least 95% on both sides of the coin
    RED-Brown = 5%-95% red - some spotting also allowed
    Brown = whats left image

    Hmmm ... dunno about the PCGS guide as I have received some British Farthings and Half Pence back from grading that were listed as red when according to the guide they should be RB.
