PSA slab sizes..

What are they after the standard card sized holders? (the size of the item that can be holdered)..

I have an autograph that's too large to look attractive on a standard sized card. I know they have slabs for 4x6 postcards is there anything in-between that and the standard sized card holder? What is the maximum size the item can be for use with the holders that they use for 4x6 postcards.

  • I'm only aware of three different PSA slabs. The regular slab, one for the "Tall Boys" and the largest slab used for Turkey Red and cabinet sized cards. Hope this helps! image

Not sure if this helps, but the ticket size holder can hold approx 3 3/4 by 7 5/8.

    Hey Knucks,

Great piece in the Hockey Beckett.

I have some Dad's cookies in 2 different size holders.

    image

    The Hodge slab is 4.25" w X 7.25" H
it appears a card up to 3.50" w X 5.50" H would fit in this

    image

    The Watson slab is 4.50" w X 9.50" H
it appears a card up to 2.00" w X 5.50" H could fit in this (basically the size of a Dad's card)

Hope this helped. These are the biggest slabs I have.

In addition to the Tall Boy and the T3 super-slabs, they offer this one for Hostess and Bazooka Panels, flattened Milk Duds boxes, and other large items up to 3.5x7.5. This one has a framed-in area, but others are clear all the way to the edges.

Cool thanks. I wonder if they'll still use the 'condom' if the item being holdered is quite thick.

    Knuckles....

Just had a '28 Exhibits postcard graded and it measures 4.25 x 7.25 inches.

By the way, super article in Beckett--your idea is a clever one and the cards are very cool indeed. It appears to me, however, that you are getting far too much credit......the real star here is not you, Knuckles, but your wife and her "scrap book glue". She/it just got mere mention in the article.image

Looking forward to seeing you and the cards in Toronto. Are you going to be setting up to take orders and sell some of your current "creations"?

Any chance you can scan that in and post it? I would really like to see it.

Yep and yep. I'll have between 15-20 for sale, some index cards for sale with the option to not only buy the autograph but to make it into a card as well.. I'm going to try and get a little brochure made up for people to take which will include an order form with instructions as to how to place a order, info about the cards and whatever else.. It will be more clear than what's on the website which I also plan to redo soon.

  • Might you expand to make similar cards for baseball stars (if we were to send you the cut autographs)?

Most definitely. I'll create a card of any athlete from any sport, celebrities from any genre, world leaders, explorers, whatever. image

Knuckles.....here is the scan. Likely a bit blurry, as my scanner has difficulty with slabbed cards and I have no digital camera at the moment. Actually a pretty decent card but for the large pinholes at top and bottom (hence the 1).

Knuckles, how did you persuade PSA to slab your cool home-made cards? I've had them refuse to grade or even authentically slab some professionally produced cards because they were not "officially licensed." Examples being the 1980s Permagraphics cards of Bench and the 1972 Daily Juice card of Clemente. And many vintage oddball issues for which PSA says "no holder available." (Obviously not the real reason, since most of these would fit in a standard holder) Just wondering what criteria PSA uses when accepting and rejecting requests for slabbing.

I mean, I assume they didn't demand to see a licensing contract to use Canadiens logos, for example, or release forms to use photos of the players. What was involved in getting the cards slabbed?
  • They are not grading the cards or authenticating the cards. All PSA is doing is authenticating and slabbing the auto. It has nothing to do with his card.

I see. I guess that makes sense. You can submit an auto in whatever presentation you wish, and they're just looking at the auto. OK.
