Help me locate this Beckett, please........

I will send whoever helps me locate this magazine first $10 via PayPal.

I am looking for a Beckett Monthly, back in 1993 or 1994, that talked about Andre Dawson and how he was purportedly buying up all of his 1993 Finest Refractors. I remember reading this as a child when I had the magazine and would really like to find this Beckett. Does anyone have back issues that they would be kind enough to go through and help me figure out a month and a year? I'd appreciate and will send whoever helps first $10 via PayPal.

I paged through the 1993-94 Becketts and I didn't see anything on the Refractors (plenty on Finest in general though). I was missing 2 months in 1994, so maybe those are the ones you need.

It was quite interesting looking at 12 year old Becketts-there actually was a little article on the first 51 Bowman Mantle that got a PSA 10 (at the time there wasn't even a 9 that had been graded yet). After taking a quick peep at the pop reports I see its the ONLY 10 out there-interesting that it was graded in 1994.

I don't think it was from 1993 or 94, i think it was a bit later. I wanna say 1998ish. I have every Beckett from 1990-2002, so I'll skim through em and if I find it you can have it for the cost of postage.

I remember that article! I think he was offered $30,000 and sold it? Maybe he kept it. Regardless, that's a quarter-million dollar card now, if not more.

I can scan it and post it, but it basically was that he won it at auction for $30,000, after his wife said he could bid a little higher on it than he was going to. PSA appraised the value at 35K shortly afterword.

It's kind of a funny story. It was one of the few times I'd ever heard/read about a player collecting his own cards. I was reading it at my late grandfather's house and I can remember exactly where I was in the house when I was reading it. I remember thinking (this was before the days of the internet), "I'll never even SEE one of these Refractor cards -- let alone even own one..."

Funny how a $60 Dawson REF from eBay came back with a 10 grade yesterday. Somewhere my grandfather is smiling.
