Some recent additions... or addictions!

It's been a looong while since I contributed with anything useful here... actually it's been so long that my reputation might actually have improved over time image

I still hang around once in a while, though. Now it's vacation time so I've got more spare time. I thought I'd share some coins that have been added to my collection over the last months. Enjoy image

  • Here's another one that I particularly like. Sorry about the big scans, but size does matter, doesn't it?

Nice coin Steve. Those spiny anteaters are fascinating creatures. I had the pleasure of meeting one when I was in Australia in 1995.

  • Wow nice. I have plenty of Australian coins lying all around me... but not those nice proof coins. image

  • The millennium coin from Gibraltar, struck in titanium. It's crownsized but very light. I like that metal. It's got a very special glow to it.

gxseries - I have a weakness for Australian proof sets. Some of them are really beautiful. The only problem about them is that they tend to get quite expensive.

Thanks for posting this, I actually have one of these coming to me in the mail. I was wondering how to tell if it was truly titanium and not virenium. I'll post a pic when I get the coin.

  • The Irish millennium punt coin. Real neat circulation coin.

Steve, it's actually easy to destinguish the two coins. Virenium is yellow while titanium is dark grey. Besides that the virenium coins has the "AA" dieletters while the titanium coin does not.

Great coins Marcel. The Australian Mint has some of the nicest Proof Sets IMO and I like their packaging.

  • An absolute favourite of mine... the Cayman Islands pineapple dollar image Actually this is the second one I buy. I am hoping to get all the different years of this small series.

  • Nepal, 2 paisa 1911. This is a very scarce coin. It was only struck in small numbers for presentation sets. The sets themselves have been scattered and are very rare today. The coins do show up on their own, but not often. In ten years of collecting Nepalese coins I have seen this coin offered twice.

Ajaan, I agree with you. The packaging of Aussie proof sets is quite nice and worth paying that little extra for.

Very nice coins indeed. I have the silver Piedfort proof of that Millennium púntimage
  • Here's the last one as promised. Another Nepalese coin, this time a small five paisa 1943 (Nepalese date: 2000). These coins are fairly common but very hard to find in better grade than VF. There's a seller on Ebay right now who is trying to get somebody to pay $20 for an XF example. Catalog value is around one dollar uncirculated image I just love the book prices on Nepalese coins. Sometimes sellers are actually willing to part with the coins at book price!

Thanks for all your comments. Brad, I will try to be around more often.

That's a very nice 1 franc! The 1's and 2's from Napoleon's era circulated heavily and had fairly low mintages so, very nice... image

  • Vern, I got the Napoleon franc on Ebay from an Israeli seller. I have always wanted one of those (the franc, that is image ) but they get awfully expensive in nice grades. I decided that this one had reasonable detail and I could live with the price: 30 bucks image
